New art exhibition to be unveiled in DKUK

London-based salon DKUK is proud to announce their latest art exhibition, ‘Plague Deconstructed’, by Puck Verkade.

The upcoming art exhibition will begin running on the 11th of November and will be installed throughout the DKUK hair salon in a series of fragments. Customers receiving hair treatments will be able to discover the installation throughout their time in the salon as screens showing the art film will be scattered around the salon, such as in the waiting area, cut station and shampooing basin.

The art exhibition, ‘Plague Deconstructed’ focuses on a mosquito to explore ecological and mental breakdowns, body image, the role of the housewife and many other cultural issues. Presented in the form of a video, the exhibit mixes multiple art mediums and features a mixture of stop motion, straight to camera performance and papier mâché. The first instalment of Verkade’s Plague series was named ‘Plague (ep.1)’ and featured as part of the Zabludowicz Collection Invites series.

On the upcoming exhibit by Verkade, DKUK exhibitions programme manager, Lucy Cowling said: “The entire team at DKUK are incredibly excited for the installation and can’t wait for the general public and our salon customers to view and engage with the exhibit.”

Customers viewing the art will no doubt draw parallels between the art film narratives about body image, self-care and the environment with DKUK’s own general neutral and sustainability initiatives. DKUK has gained its industry-leading reputation by charging gender neutral prices and stocking vegan hair care and sustainable styling products. The original salon who removed mirrors in favour of art, DKUK aims to make contemporary art more accessible and easily available.

You do not need to be a paying customer to view the Verkade exhibit, all are welcome to view the installation. The installation is just one of the six exhibits that DKUK stage over a year.
